The film Born Free, released in the 1960s, documents the life of Elsa, an orphaned lioness taken into the care of George and Joy Adamson in 1956. Elsa's mother was shot and George and Joy trained her to survive on her own, rehabilitating her for a life in the wild. Tragically George and Joy Adamson were murdered not long after.
