East Africa’s Great Rift Valley is one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. An enormous trench that stretches down through Africa – from Syria all the way to Mozambique – it can be viewed from space and is one of the most wildlife-rich landscapes on the planet.

From the majestic, snow-capped mountains of Kilimanjaro to the hustle and bustle of the Red Sea’s coral reefs, and the dry, open savannahs of the Serengeti to the rain-soaked forests of the Mountains of the Moon, this unique geographical feature has been created and shaped by nature, creating a hotbed of evolution in the cradle of mankind.

This three-episode channel premiere series investigates the geological forces that created the trench, and then takes a closer look at the wildlife and ecosystems that exist around it.
