Breaking Ice is a six-part, UK exclusive series that takes viewers aboard two icebreakers that journey to two extreme parts of the planet - the Arctic and the Antarctic.
This series offers viewers 24/7 access on board US Coast Guard icebreaker CGC Healy in the Arctic and at the same time on board Germanys icebreaker the RV Polarstern as it journeys to the Antarctic.
Each episode in the series cuts between both sides of the planet to take viewers on board these steel vessels that are nearly as powerful as the Titanic, however they dont sink when they hit ice they simply smash through it. Breaking Ice also flashes back to disasters in the Arctic and Antarctic that occurred in just the last few years.
